As we know Indonesian people and the world have entered the industrial age 4.0. Industry 4.0 or the fourth industrial revolution is a commonly used term for the level of technological growth in the world, so the first key is digital technology. It’s impacted on a number of changes including the literary world. It starts with hand-to-hand writing and then printing to online-based digital.
Now, santri has played a role in coping with the age of digital technology in knowing how it is used. They must wave and preach to the masses through social media whether it is written, video, and etc. especially at this time of the covid-19 pandemic, where society is required to be indoors so that they spend their time exploring social media. Then, santri must be required by tech expert first to correct their tragic applications.
Santri must play significant role in the use of social media by sharing such helpful matter as words of advice, dakwah videos, and motivation. And so flows the sea of science on social media with the incredible role of santri. Anyway, they must also behave themselves. They must not lose their best identity as muslim. And also they must be creative, innovative, and adaptive to the “HOAX” news, malicious news, and current news by holding fast to the values of good Islamic traditions.
Therefore, santri had to be an tech-savory because they played a vital role in establishing Islamic standards. Even in history, they are involved in the divorce of Indonesians through institutions of education. With social media presence, santri also played a role by suppressing social media possession by people whi did not understand religion properly, which if allowed to nurture speech of hate and create a tense life.
The power of santri can not be taken for granted, at present Indonesia has 29.000 boarding schools, more than five million santri, and more than 90 million santri communities. With such fantastic numbers they were able to bypass any negative news in social media. Just as in the past they fought the crime with pointed bamboo, now they fight with digital technology through social media.
In addition to their being required to know technology, they should also be able to speak English for which the text was a major computer for mastering technology. And also English is the world’s principal language. As we see together, there’s no digital technology that doesn’t speak English. It could be that in future, there’s no such thing as English.
Through technology, santri could modernize a boarding school. That has the potential to drive the economy of boarding schools. Going from a more advanced age, income is increasingly dominating through technology and depending on the expertise of the oderlies to master it.
With religious science and independence in boarding schools, santri can minimize digital use of technology to the nonessential waste of time studying. They only use it when it is so important.
